Good News: Just In Miami Hurricanes Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced Coach

Chris Dominguez has been appointed as an assistant coach for the University of Miami baseball team, as announced by head coach J.D. Arteaga. Arteaga praised Dominguez, calling him “one of the best young coaches in the game” and highlighting his major league experience and deep connection to the Hurricanes’ program. Dominguez, a Miami native, is expected to play a key role in developing the next generation of Canes baseball players.

Dominguez returns to Miami after three years at Bellarmine University, where he served as head coach for the last two seasons. He previously worked with the Hurricanes as an assistant coach during the 2021 season. Dominguez’s baseball career includes 11 years of professional play (2009-2019), with time spent at the MLB level with the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds.

Excited about his return, Dominguez expressed his pride in joining the prestigious Hurricanes baseball program, noting his passion for teaching and his desire to help bring a fifth national championship to Coral Gables. He believes head coach Arteaga has the vision to achieve that goal.

During his professional career, Dominguez appeared in over 1,000 games, posting a .263 batting average, 134 home runs, and 592 RBIs. Notably, he hit 21 home runs and drove in 101 runs in his first full season in 2010 with the Augusta GreenJackets, a Class-A affiliate of the Giants. In 2013, he showcased his versatility by hitting 21 homers and stealing 21 bases for Triple-A Fresno.

Before his pro career, Dominguez was a standout at the University of Louisville, where he became a two-time All-American and helped lead the team to its first-ever College World Series appearance in 2007. His collegiate accolades include BIG EAST Player of the Year honors in 2009 and All-America recognition for multiple seasons.

A graduate of Gulliver Prep High School, Dominguez was drafted multiple times, eventually signing with the San Francisco Giants after being selected in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft.

Dominguez and his wife, Shannon, have two children, Patrick and Murphy. His return to Miami is seen as a homecoming that could significantly benefit the Hurricanes baseball program.
