The Los Angeles Rams have bolstered their receiving corps by signing former Detroit Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus to their practice squad. Cephus, a 2020 fifth-round pick by the Lions, is known for his physicality and ability to make tough catches in traffic. He played his college ball at the University of Wisconsin, where he established himself as a reliable target and a deep threat. During his time with the Lions, Cephus showed flashes of potential, especially during his rookie season when he caught 20 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns. In 2021, he was off to a promising start before a collarbone injury cut his season short after just five games, during which he posted 15 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite his promising start, Cephus struggled to stay healthy and was ultimately waived by the Lions in May 2023, following a suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. This marked a significant setback in his career, as he was expected to be a key part of the Lions’ offense. The suspension led to a one-year ban from the NFL, which Cephus is appealing.
Now with the Rams, Cephus has a fresh opportunity to prove himself and potentially earn a spot on the active roster. The Rams have dealt with injuries to key receivers, and the addition of Cephus gives them another option as they try to navigate through the challenges of a long NFL season.
For Cephus, the signing represents a chance at redemption. At just 25 years old, he still has plenty of time to turn his career around and showcase the talent that made him a standout at Wisconsin and a promising young player in Detroit.
