Christian Watson, a wide receiver, might miss a few weeks with the Packers. In today’s defeat to the Vikings, the third-year wide receiver was taken off the pitch. Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report reports that the first diagnosis is a high ankle sprain.
With Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback in the second round, Watson had his best season. Throwing to Watson, Allen Lazard, Romeo Doubbs, and Randall Cobb, Aaron Rodgers had one of his worst seasons with the Packers the season after they traded away Davante Adams. Watson was second on the team with 611 receiving yards that year and led the team with seven receiving touchdowns.
Watson’s contribution to the offence started to decrease after Jordan Love took over at quarterback. Although he only grabbed 28 of the 53 targets he was given in his second season, he still managed to finish fourth on the team with 422 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Watson has performed in that WR3/4 capacity thus far this season, catching five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. The Packers had most of the same offensive line as their playoff squad from the previous season, despite some changes at the running back position. Love will still have Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks as his top three wideouts if Watson is sidelined. Green Bay would need Bo Melton to fill in as the WR4 in Watson’s absence.
This season, high ankle sprains have been frequent with variable outcomes. After suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 1, quarterback Justin Herbert of the Chargers has missed a few plays but not a single start. Due to a severe ankle sprain, the Falcons placed centre Drew Dalman on injured reserve, causing him to miss at least four games. Finally, Micah Parsons, a top defender for the Cowboys, is anticipated to miss two to four weeks due to the same injury.
There is a chance that Watson will miss numerous games, but it appears to depend on the severity and the player. Tomorrow, the 25-year-old will go through a few tests to have a better understanding of his injury.
