A sudden suspension of one of the Green Bay Packers’ promising playmakers has put the wide receiver group in jeopardy. Romeo Doubs was suspended by the team prior to their Week 5 match, according several reports, including one from Ian Rapoport. This left analysts and Packers supporters wondering why the decision was made.
Prior to the ban, Doubs missed multiple sessions because he was becoming increasingly irritated with his position in the Packers’ offence. Despite having the most snap counts this season—224—he led the Packers in other categories, according to his analytics. With just 12 catches out of 20 targets for 169 yards, the young receiver failed to score any touchdowns. Doubs’s irritation level increased as he saw himself falling down the depth chart, especially with colleagues Jayden Reed and Christian Watson becoming the new main targets.
The choice to suspend Doubs highlights the continued difficulties in the Packers’ receiving group. Amidst injuries to quarterback Jordan Love and the adoption of new offensive tactics, the once-promising season for the Doubs has seen its share of challenges. It is still unclear if the ban is for team behaviour standards or for performance, but it shows how difficult it is for Green Bay to build a strong receiving core and throws off their plans for their Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
