In a major move, Rick Tocchet, head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, has officially announced the signing of another highly experienced superstar. This addition aims to further strengthen the team’s depth and competitive edge as they gear up for the upcoming season. The newly signed player brings a wealth of experience and talent, which will be crucial in bolstering the roster and providing leadership on and off the ice.
Tocchet expressed excitement about the signing, highlighting the player’s skill set, veteran presence, and the positive impact expected on the team’s performance. With this move, the Canucks continue to position themselves as serious contenders, aiming to make a deep playoff run in the near future. More details about the superstar’s role and potential contributions will be revealed as the team prepares for the season ahead.
The Vancouver Canucks have acquired defenseman Erik Brannstrom from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Tucker Poolman and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick. Brannstrom, 25, joined the Avalanche in July after spending six years with the Ottawa Senators. He signed a one-year, $900,000 contract and is known for his offensive skills, tallying three goals and 17 assists in 76 games for Ottawa during the 2023-24 season.
Originally drafted 15th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017, Brannstrom has recorded seven goals and 62 assists over 266 career NHL games. Poolman, 31, has struggled with injuries, last playing for the Canucks in October 2023. He is expected to miss the 2024-25 season due to a head injury, and Vancouver will retain 20% of his salary in the trade.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin praised Brannstrom’s skating and skills, while also thanking Poolman for his time in Vancouver, expressing disappointment that his career was cut short due to injury.
