The Carolina Panthers have signed defensive lineman , according to Joe Person of The Athletic. Smith, 27, has spent the past three years moving between the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and active roster. During his NFL career, Smith has appeared in four games, recording 11 tackles across 108 total snaps, with 86 on defense and 22 on special teams.
Smith now has a chance to settle into a more stable role with the Panthers. Although his experience in the league has been limited, he is expected to compete for a backup position in Carolina’s defense as the offseason progresses.
Given his background and versatility, playing both on defense and special teams, Smith will aim to prove his value to the coaching staff and secure a spot on the roster.
While not a household name, Smith’s work ethic and persistence have kept him in the NFL, and this new opportunity with Carolina provides him with a fresh start. The Panthers will likely assess his performance during training camp and preseason to determine where he fits in the defensive lineup.
