Our Dallas Cowboys vs. Lions Notebook: All the information, analysis, and quotations from The Star during NFL Week OCT 10 DIGGS OUT about Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones, and “America’s Team” Star cornerback Trevon Diggs of the Cowboys missed practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury and illness listed on the injury report as of Thursday.
Over the course of the night, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott turned the ball over twice in the red zone with a sack fumble – the 100th sack of T.J. Watt’s career – and an interception that seemed like a miscommunication between him and receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Other significant DNPs for the day are Eric Kendricks and Zack Martin. UNLIKELY STARS OCT 6 After a roughly ninety-minute weather delay, the Dallas Cowboys played sloppy football for sixty minutes into the night and into the morning. Two unlikely offensive heroes sealed the Dallas victory with a last-second 20-17 victory.
But in the clutch? Dak found Jalen Tolbert with just seconds left for a fourth-and-goal TD on a drive fueled by the running of Rico Dowdle – who earlier in the game had himself caught a Dak TD pass.
Tolbert is not CeeDee Lamb (seven catches, 87 yards). Furthermore, Dowdle hasn’t had the same career as Ezekiel Elliott (20 carries, 87 yards). But a move to 3-2 on this close night? The two brightest lights were two weaker ones. CEEDEE GUN SIGN OCT 5? CeeDee Lamb received fines of $11,255 for taunting and $14,069 for acting in an unsportsmanlike manner or making a violent gesture following a play, according to the NFL. … yet both choices look iffy to us.
Lamb – who was fined $22,511 for unnecessary roughness in Week 3 – in the Week 4 win over the Giants at one point caught a pass and while sitting down, seemed to gesture that he’d achieved a first down. Or … that he was pantomiming a gun shot?
You be the judge … OCT 3 MCCARTHY SAYS … Coach Mike McCarthy’s Thursday press briefing here inside The Star before practice featured a handful of key points for the day. To wit …
“Impressive” is how the coach described the athletic quarterback for the Steelers, Justin Fields. and McCarthy emphasised that Fields is more than just a runner, despite what many people believe. “Old-style” is how he described the Pittsburgh defence under coach Mike Tomlin, referring to their conventional adherence to fundamentals.
Rookie Caelen Carson (shoulder) is Dallas’ top injury question of the week. “He needs to make a big step today,” the coach said. OCT 2 INJURY REPORT The Wednesday practice report for the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers features starting corner Caelen Carson (shoulder) – who sat out last weeks win at the Giants – being upgraded to “limited” in this first practice of the week.
Notable DNP’s for Pittsburgh include Nick Herbig, Jaylen Warren and Cordarrelle Patterson. OCT 1 DE SIGNED The Cowboys are signing pass-rusher K.J. Henry while poaching him off the Bengals practice squad.. Amid national media reports that misled Cowboys Nation into thinking the team would “explore outside options” of name players to help while Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence are hurt … this level of move was always the reality.
Although it seems doubtful, young star corner DaRon Bland did work out with trainers here at The Star on the sidelines. He is eligible to come off injured reserve this week. Of course, no Micah Parsons (ankle)… and Demarcus Lawrence (foot) is not included since he was placed on injured reserve and is not currently on the 53-man roster. Notable is also Dalvin Cook’s absence from both practice and this list of running backs. He was sick today, so he missed it. However, as he is not on the 53, he is not listed on the injury report.
