### Bucs Offseason Goal to Reduce Cade Otton’s Snaps Not Materializing
One of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offseason objectives was to significantly reduce the number of snaps for tight end Cade Otton. However, that goal hasn’t been realized.
Last season, Otton played an astonishing 1,067 snaps, accounting for 97 percent of the team’s total. This workload is far beyond that of other full-time tight ends in the league, making their participation seem limited in comparison. Players like Kyle Pitts, Dallas Goedert, and Sam LaPorta don’t approach those kinds of snap counts.
As the 2024 season unfolds, Otton appears to be on a similar trajectory, having participated in 94 percent of the Bucs’ snaps so far. While his production has increased, he has yet to find the end zone. Film analysis suggests that Otton’s blocking has become more reliable, with fewer breakdowns in the run game, even if he still isn’t considered an elite blocker.
Under new playcaller Liam Coen, the Bucs have opted for fewer two-tight end sets, limiting Ko Kieft’s offensive snaps to a handful and leaving Payne Durham with just one target this season.
Given this trend, it seems the Buccaneers are committed to keeping Otton heavily involved. However, concerns are growing about how this high snap count might affect his performance as the season progresses. Fans will be watching closely to see if he can maintain his effectiveness despite the demanding workload.
