The Montreal Canadiens have officially placed on waivers, with plans to assign them to the AHL Laval Rocket if they clear. Barre-Boulet, in particular, was waived on Sunday with the intention of loaning him to Laval. He appeared in two games for the Canadiens, where he averaged 10 minutes and 10 seconds of ice time per game. However, he was scratched from the lineup for Montreal’s game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
If Barre-Boulet clears waivers, he is expected to remain with the AHL Laval Rocket as a depth player. His role in the organization seems to be that of a fill-in option, providing support when needed but not expected to hold a permanent spot on the NHL roster.
Despite his experience, he hasn’t been able to carve out a significant role with Montreal so far this season. Barre-Boulet’s time with the Canadiens has been limited, and it’s clear that the team sees him as more of an AHL player at this stage in his career.
Gustav Lindstrom, another experienced player, was also placed on waivers by the Canadiens. Like Barre-Boulet, Lindstrom’s future with the team likely depends on whether or not he clears waivers. If unclaimed, he too will likely be assigned to Laval for the foreseeable future. Lindstrom has had more NHL experience, but it appears Montreal views him as part of their depth defense corps, available for call-up when necessary.
Both Barre-Boulet and Lindstrom represent valuable depth for the Canadiens but have not been able to break through into the team’s regular NHL lineup. They provide Montreal with veteran experience in the AHL and could be called up in the event of injuries or roster changes later in the season. For now, however, their roles will primarily be with Laval.
From a broader perspective, the decision to waive both players is part of Montreal’s strategy to build a competitive roster while keeping reliable options available in the AHL. Barre-Boulet and Lindstrom may see NHL action later in the season, but for now, they are expected to remain in Laval, serving as potential reinforcements if the need arises. This move ensures that the Canadiens have experienced players ready to step in when needed, even if they aren’t currently part of the main NHL squad.
