**Two Key Moves the Indiana Fever Need to Make to Improve**
The Indiana Fever had a breakout season but need to make significant offseason moves to maintain their momentum. With two recent WNBA Rookie of the Year winners, Aliyah Boston (2023) and Caitlin Clark (2024), the Fever aim to build a winning culture around these young stars. However, the team struggled early in the season, lacking both rhythm and veteran leadership, which contributed to their first-round playoff exit against the Connecticut Sun.
To take the next step, the Fever must address two key areas: power forward stability and roster depth.
**1. Stabilize the Power Forward Position**
Nalyssa Smith began the season strong but became inconsistent as the year progressed. Despite averaging 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds, her shooting percentages—29.2% from three-point range and 56.7% from the free-throw line—were subpar. Trade rumors surrounding Smith have also surfaced, due to her frustrations with limited playing time. Adding a versatile power forward could enhance floor spacing and defense.
Veteran power forwards like Natasha Howard, who averaged 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds for the Dallas Wings, or Nneka Ogwumike, a former WNBA MVP, could be potential targets in free agency.
**2. Add Depth to the Roster**
Head coach Christie Sides relied heavily on her starters, who often played 35+ minutes per game. This led to fatigue, particularly when the team faced foul trouble. Adding experienced bench players like Erica Wheeler or Kia Nurse would provide valuable support. Veteran Alysha Clark, known for her leadership and solid performance, could also make a significant impact.
The Fever can also strengthen their depth through the WNBA draft by selecting players like Janiah Barker or Azzi Fudd, who could provide long-term value and pair well with Boston and Clark.
By addressing these two key areas, the Fever can continue building a competitive team for the future.
