Breaking: Just in Canadiens Missed Out on Acquiring a Star Player for Free Due To.

Carter Verhaeghe’s contract was extended by the Florida Panthers a few days ago.

A new eight-year contract worth $56 million has been signed.

The 29-year-old forward has become essential for the Panthers since joining in 2020 on a modest two-year deal.

This extension recognizes his outstanding performances, including two back-to-back seasons with 70 points and a Stanley Cup win.

His path is similar to that of Jonathan Marchessault, who also flourished after leaving the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Analyst Anthony Marcotte of BPM Sports suggested that the Montreal Canadiens may have overlooked Carter Verhaeghe, who had already shown significant promise.

Now, with 289 points in 340 games for the Panthers, Verhaeghe is considered one of the team’s top finds in the last ten years.

For Canadiens fans, Verhaeghe’s achievements could be disappointing, but the acquisitions of Tyler Toffoli and Corey Perry during that time still bolstered the team.

Carter Verhaeghe, a 29-year-old forward from Toronto, stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 185 pounds. He was selected in the third round by the Maple Leafs in 2013 and has recorded 249 points in 334 career NHL games.

He has played his entire career in Florida, including stints with the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Verhaeghe played a crucial role in the Panthers’ Stanley Cup victory last June, tallying 72 points in 76 games last season and adding 21 points in 24 playoff games.

This signing is a strong move for Bill Zito’s team.
