Before the 2024-25 season has even begun, many have already dismissed the Miami Heat as serious contenders, and it’s not difficult to see why. While other teams have made significant improvements during the offseason, the Heat have decided to stick with much of the same roster that was eliminated in the first round of last season’s playoffs. Although staying injury-free could significantly boost their chances, there are still glaring areas where the team needs to improve.
The Heat have built a reputation as one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, but their offense has often fallen short. While Bam Adebayo potentially expanding his game by shooting more three-pointers could add a new dimension, it likely won’t be enough to turn Miami into a top-tier offensive team. To address their scoring concerns, some analysts believe the Heat should make a bold move before the trade deadline.
In a recent article by Bleacher Report titled “1 Ambitious Trade Target for Every NBA Team This Season,” writer Andy Bailey suggested that Miami should pursue a blockbuster trade for Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young. Bailey acknowledges that acquiring Young would be a long shot, particularly since the Hawks have already moved on from Dejounte Murray, which likely signals their commitment to Young as their primary offensive leader. However, if circumstances change and Young becomes available, Bailey believes he could be a transformative piece for the Heat.
Young is an electrifying scorer and playmaker, known for his ability to create offense both for himself and his teammates. Bringing him to Miami would address their offensive struggles, providing the Heat with a much-needed boost in scoring and playmaking. His ability to space the floor with deep three-pointers and facilitate for others would take pressure off of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, giving Miami a more balanced attack.
Of course, landing a player of Trae Young’s caliber would come at a steep price, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be on the trading block anytime soon. But as the Heat look for ways to improve their roster and become more competitive in a tough Eastern Conference, pursuing a player like Young could be the type of ambitious move that could elevate them back into serious contention.
