Breaking: Just in Texas Rangers All-Star undergoes second surgery for wrist injury

Texas Rangers All-Star Josh Jung is looking to bounce back in 2025 after a wrist injury limited him to just 46 games last season.

Jung had a second surgery on his right wrist, which he fractured only four games into the year. This latest procedure involved releasing the ECU tendon.

“After consulting multiple medical opinions about his ongoing wrist issue, we decided it was best for Josh to undergo the release surgery now. This will ensure he has a normal offseason and is fully prepared for Spring Training,” said Chris Young, president of baseball operations, in a statement to Rangers.com. “There was uncertainty with other options, but this gives us a clear timeline. After a recovery of three to four weeks, Josh can start regaining strength in his wrist and resume his regular offseason activities.”

In the 46 games he played, Jung posted a .264/.298/.421 batting line, with 13 extra-base hits, including seven home runs. He had a strong start to the season, going 7-for-17 with a double, triple, and two home runs in his first four games.

After being hit by a pitch on April 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays, Jung struggled with discomfort around the surgical area. He returned on July 29 but was unable to find his rhythm from 2023 and was ultimately sidelined again at the season’s end when the discomfort resurfaced.

Jung was an All-Star in 2023, finishing fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting with 23 home runs, 25 doubles, and a .781 OPS.
