has addressed rumors circulating about him leaving the Texas Longhorns football team. These rumors gained traction after Texas, formerly ranked No. 1, suffered a heavy 30-15 loss to the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. During the game, a controversial pass interference call led to fans throwing water bottles onto the field, resulting in a $250,000 fine for Texas. On top of that, an Instagram post from 247Sports on Monday claimed that Ewers was leaving the team to prepare for the NFL draft. This speculation followed Ewers being benched for a few drives in favor of Arch Manning and not speaking to the media as he usually does.
However, ESPN’s Pete Thamel quickly confirmed that the rumors were false, and Ewers himself took to social media to clear the air. Despite the rumors, Ewers remains the starting quarterback, as confirmed by Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. While Ewers is still leading the team, Saturday’s game was one of his worst performances. He completed 25-of-43 passes (58%) for 211 yards, throwing two touchdowns and an interception, and was sacked five times. His performance earned a low grade of 40.3 from Pro Football Focus, the worst on the team.
Despite the tough game, Sarkisian expressed his confidence in Ewers, giving him the opportunity to bounce back in the upcoming game against No. 25 Vanderbilt. Ewers is focused on improving on the field and continuing to lead the Longhorns for the remainder of the season.
