Latest HNL News: Top Experienced New York Rangers Superstar Name Detroit Red Wings As His Preferred Trade Destionation After Turning Down New Contract Offer

Though  is expected to remain with the New York Rangers long-term, speculation has emerged about where the star goaltender might land if the Rangers don’t extend his contract. Elliotte Friedman of “32 Thoughts: The Podcast” has hinted that the Rangers are likely to offer Shesterkin a new deal, but as of now, his future is not entirely settled. The 28-year-old is in the final year of his four-year, $22.67 million contract, and if he hits free agency, several teams may be eager to sign him. Here are five possible destinations for Shesterkin:

1. **Toronto Maple Leafs**
The Maple Leafs are always a potential suitor for top talent, with their deep pockets and a fanbase hungry for success. Toronto’s cap situation will depend on the futures of Mitchell Marner and John Tavares, who are both on expiring contracts. For Shesterkin, Toronto offers the chance to join a well-funded franchise with head coach Craig Berube, who won a Stanley Cup with St. Louis, and a superstar in Auston Matthews.

2. **Utah Hockey Club**
Formerly the Arizona Coyotes, Utah is in the midst of a rebuild with plenty of cap space and few long-term goaltender commitments. The franchise, eager to make a splash in its new market, could use its ample assets to surround Shesterkin with talent, providing him with an appealing opportunity to lead a young, emerging team.

3. **Montreal Canadiens**
The Canadiens, bolstered by young offensive talent, are looking to compete but have defensive issues, with current goalie Samuel Montembeault masking some of their weaknesses. Shesterkin has a strong connection to Montreal’s executive vice president Jeff Gorton, who was the Rangers’ assistant GM when they drafted him in 2014. Gorton also brought Shesterkin to the NHL during his tenure as Rangers GM. The Canadiens, a historic franchise, are seeking to return to relevance after recent struggles.

4. **Detroit Red Wings**
Detroit is an important NHL franchise that has missed the playoffs for eight consecutive seasons. With a roster capable of being competitive and a wealth of prospects, GM Steve Yzerman has been patient with the rebuild. However, as top prospects near NHL readiness, Shesterkin could be the key piece to push the Red Wings back into contention.

These teams represent potential landing spots should Shesterkin explore free agency, although the Rangers are still the most likely to keep him on a long-term deal.
