Latest Irish News: Notre Dame Fighting Irish Officially Commits Another Top Talented Superstar

Top Talented  has decided to remain committed to SMU, ending Notre Dame’s hopes of adding the talented receiver to their 2025 class. While the decision wasn’t a shock by the time of the announcement, it would have been surprising just a few weeks earlier when Notre Dame seemed to be gaining momentum in his recruitment.

Following his official visit to South Bend, Cooper admitted to 247Sports’ Tom Loy that the decision was tough. He said, “I have a very hard decision to make. I’m going to take a few days to think about it. I wasn’t expecting Notre Dame to check all the boxes and then some.” Despite this, the Texas native ultimately chose to stay close to home and be part of SMU’s exciting, resurgent program, which is quickly becoming one of the best football products in Dallas.

Though losing Cooper to SMU stings for Notre Dame, particularly on the recruiting trail, it’s understandable why he chose to stay in Texas. Now, Notre Dame must turn its attention to other wide receiver prospects for the 2025 recruiting class.

According to Irish Illustrated, the Fighting Irish have several remaining options at the position. The staff is evaluating other offered prospects and targets to bolster their recruiting efforts. The receiver class will be key for Notre Dame moving forward as they look to reshape their offensive roster. Just as they have with other positions, like quarterback, the Irish will now assess the available talent and continue their pursuit of top players to fill the void left by Cooper’s decision to remain with SMU.
