The Carolina Panthers have announced the re-signing of two players to their practice squad. The current practice squad roster consists of the following players:
– OLB Kenny Dyson
– QB Jack Plummer
– OL Ja’Tyre Carter
– G Brandon Walton
– WR Praise Olatoke (International)
– RB Dillon Johnson
– TE Jordan Matthews
– WR Deven Thompkins
– LB Jackson Mitchell
– DB Caleb Farley
– RB Mike Boone
– DB Russ Yeast
– LB Shaquille Quarterman
– WR Dan Chisena
– C Andrew Raym
– DT T.J. Smith
– LB Chandler Wooten
One of the key names in this list is linebacker Chandler Wooten. Wooten, now 25, signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2022. He agreed to a three-year deal worth $2,565,000 with the Cardinals. However, Arizona released Wooten after the preseason that year, leading him to sign with their practice squad.
Carolina later picked him up from the Cardinals’ practice squad. Over the past two years, Wooten has experienced a series of waivers and re-signings with the Panthers. Each time, he has made his way back to the practice squad after being waived during preseason, but he has also seen promotions to the active roster at times.
Wooten has been a contributing player for the Panthers in 2024, appearing in three games so far this season. In these appearances, he has recorded a total of seven tackles, demonstrating his ability to make an impact when given the opportunity.
The practice squad offers Wooten and the others a chance to continue developing and potentially earn more playing time as the season progresses. With injuries and roster changes always a possibility, the players on this list may find themselves called up to contribute to the active roster as needed. The Panthers’ approach to managing their practice squad shows their focus on having depth and flexibility throughout the season.
