Breaking: Montreal Canadiens Officially Release Another Top Superstar After Poor Start

A notable analyst for the Montreal Canadiens believes that young defenseman s not part of the team’s future plans and may soon be on his way out of Montreal.

The Canadiens made a significant move in 2021 by signing the undrafted Xhekaj to an entry-level contract, much to the delight of fans who appreciated his physical style and offensive capabilities. However, his season took a downturn this year. Following a controversial preseason during which he was ejected from two games, coach Martin St. Louis decided to scratch him for the last two matches, opting for Jayden Struble instead.

Critics have pointed out Xhekaj’s failure to improve, especially in his defensive play, and he seems to be struggling with his usual aggressive style, which has led to growing frustration among fans.

Jean-Charles Lajoie of TVA Sports recently published an article titled “The Future of Arber Xhekaj Is No Longer in Montreal,” stating that the defenseman hasn’t demonstrated that he deserves a spot on the team and is unlikely to factor into their plans. Lajoie noted that while Xhekaj entered the preseason with a strong attitude, his actions have not been well received. He expressed concern over Xhekaj’s defensive lapses and lack of discipline, stating that such behavior is detrimental to the team’s success.

Pierre LeBrun from TSN echoed Lajoie’s sentiments, suggesting that the Canadiens might consider trading Xhekaj, even though trades early in the season are rare.

However, some believe it is premature to part ways with a young, promising defenseman. Xhekaj has a unique skill set that would be missed in Montreal. His physical presence is crucial, especially given the team’s recent needs in protecting teammates. Despite his defensive inconsistencies, he still has the potential to contribute significantly if given the chance to develop.
