The Edmonton Oilers have signed prospect to a three-year entry-level contract. O’Reilly, drafted 32nd overall in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft by Edmonton, is an 18-year-old forward currently playing for the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
In the 2024-25 season so far, O’Reilly has recorded two goals and three assists, totaling five points over seven games. Last season, he made a significant impact with 20 goals and 36 assists in 68 games, along with an impressive playoff performance, adding five goals and 12 points in 16 games to help London secure the OHL Championship. He further contributed at the 2024 Memorial Cup in Saginaw, Michigan, with three assists and four points across four games.
O’Reilly, a Toronto native, has seen a swift rise in his draft rankings. Many scouts view him as this draft’s breakout player, likening his rapid progress to past players like Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten. Despite initial projections, O’Reilly finished among the top scorers for London, placing third in goals and second in assists.
Daily Faceoff analyst Steven Ellis ranked O’Reilly 51st in his final top-120 NHL Draft Rankings, noting his development as a smart, two-way center with a solid playoff run. After starting in Jr. B hockey with the London Nationals, O’Reilly adapted quickly to the OHL’s pace and intensity, surpassing expectations and showing promise for a young player with a versatile skill set.
