The Buffalo Bills secured a critical 30-27 victory over the Miami Dolphins, but rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman sustained an injury that could have lasting implications. Late in the game, Coleman was sidelined after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer. The hit resulted in an unnecessary roughness penalty, giving Buffalo a crucial first down on third-and-9. This penalty extended the drive and led to Tyler Bass’s game-winning 61-yard field goal.
After the game, Coleman was seen wearing a brace on his right wrist, signaling a potential arm injury. Reporter Matt Parrino noted that Coleman was holding his arm post-hit, though the injury’s severity remains unclear. Already dealing with the absence of newly acquired receiver Amari Cooper, who was out with an arm injury, the Bills may face challenges with their wide receiver depth.
During the game, Coleman recorded a 21-yard catch but also missed a pass near the goal line that led to an interception. He did, however, catch a key two-point conversion in the third quarter. Coleman has been a standout for the Bills this season, tallying 22 catches for 417 yards and two touchdowns.
Jordan Poyer, who joined Miami after seven seasons with Buffalo, said he didn’t intend to hit Coleman’s helmet. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel commented on the hit, saying that while aggression is essential, Poyer should have aimed for a “strike zone” hit to avoid penalties.
The win extends Buffalo’s lead in the division, putting them four games ahead of the New York Jets and maintaining an undefeated record in the division this season. The Bills have now swept the Dolphins for the second consecutive year and the fifth time in six seasons.
