Buffalo Bills safety is expected to be released today unless a last-minute trade occurs, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Edwards, who has seen very limited play this season—only appearing for seven defensive snaps and 13 special teams snaps—likely won’t attract trade interest due to his minimal on-field role.
Last season, Edwards played for the Kansas City Chiefs, participating in 57% of their defensive snaps and 28% of their special teams snaps.
In 2022, he was a starter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, indicating his recent experience and potential to contribute to a defense. Given his history with both the Chiefs and the Buccaneers, it wouldn’t be surprising if one of these teams considered bringing him back once he officially leaves the Bills.
A 2019 third-round pick by Tampa Bay, the 28-year-old Edwards has notable experience, including winning two Super Bowl rings—one with the Buccaneers and another with the Chiefs. His release from Buffalo opens up a possible return to familiar teams seeking depth in their secondary or on special teams.
