Jalen Milroe, the quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has had a somewhat mixed season so far. The Tide won their first four games, including one against the now-No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs, thanks to the preseason All-American. Milroe performed admirably during the matchup with Georgia, completing 27 of 33 throws for 374 yards and two arm-based touchdowns. In addition, he gained 117 yards and two scores on 16 ground runs. He was the overwhelming favourite to win the Heisman Trophy at this point, with Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes coming in second at +500.
Since then, Alabama has gone 2-2, losing to the Tennessee Volunteers and Vanderbilt Commodores, and Milroe has entirely disappeared from the Heisman discussion. During that time, the senior quarterback has racked up five interceptions and hasn’t looked like the man that Georgia fans saw. During his appearance on “The McShay Show,” former NFL draft analyst Todd McShay made a comparison between the 2025 quarterback class and previous ones on Thursday. With players like Milroe, Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers, Garrett Nussmeier, Carson Beck, and others, he came to the conclusion that this class is comparable to the one from 2023.
McShay then said that Milroe resembles Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, highlighting their athleticism and powerful arms. former Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson, now with the Indianapolis Colts, pointing to their athleticism and strong arms.
Richardson was drafted No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL draft. The former Florida Gator was recently benched for 39-year-old veteran Joe Flacco after playing in just 10 games over two seasons. The Colts haven’t given up on Richardson, but head coach Shane Steichen wants to give him time to develop.
Richardson was draughted at an excessively high level. “Perhaps that turns into the Jalen Milroe spot,” McShay remarked. “You’re betting on the athleticism, the big-time arm.” While acknowledging each quarterback’s skills, McShay made it clear that both still require time to mature. “But he (Milroee) doesn’t have enough game experience,” McShay said. “He has more pressure than Anthony Richardson, who had 12–13 starts coming out of Florida, and he has important games, playing in the SEC, and representing Alabama. However, you would rather that he have more gaming experience and continue to grow.
A four-star recruit from the class of 2021, Milroe has amassed 1,937 passing yards this season along with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has added 12 touchdowns and 380 running yards on the ground. The No. 15 LSU Tigers and the No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide will meet in Death Valley on Saturday. ABC will broadcast kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.
