The Philadelphia Flyers have announced a trade with the Edmonton Oilers, acquiring defenseman Ben Gleason in exchange for defenseman Ronnie Attard. Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere confirmed the transaction.
Gleason, 26, has played seven games this season for the Bakersfield Condors, the AHL affiliate of the Oilers, recording four points (one goal, three assists). At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, the Ortonville, Michigan native ranks second among defensemen on his team in points and is tied for fifth overall. Additionally, he’s tied for third in shots on goal with 15.
Originally signed as a free agent by the Dallas Stars in 2018, Gleason made his NHL debut that year, scoring his first NHL point on November 10. He spent five seasons with Dallas’ AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars, before joining Edmonton as a free agent in July 2023. Over his AHL career with Texas and Bakersfield, Gleason has appeared in 359 games, contributing 177 points (40 goals, 137 assists), along with eight power-play goals and five game-winning goals.
Attard, 25, was a Flyers third-round draft pick in 2019 (72nd overall). In 29 NHL games with Philadelphia from 2021 to 2024, he registered six points (two goals, four assists). Attard also recorded 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists) in 123 AHL games over two seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
This trade aims to strengthen both teams’ defensive depth and could give Gleason a chance to contribute at the NHL level with the Flyers.
