Breaking: Vancouver Canucks Officially Trade Another Top Veteran To Rivals

The Seattle Kraken made a familiar addition to their roster on Friday by reacquiring forward from the Vancouver Canucks. In exchange, the Kraken sent future considerations to their Pacific Northwest rivals, bringing back a player they know well and who previously found success with the franchise.

Sprong, 27, had a limited role with the Canucks this season, recording just three points and averaging under 12 minutes of ice time over nine games. This move marks Sprong’s return to Seattle, where he previously played during the 2021-22 season and throughout the 2022-23 season before joining the Detroit Red Wings last year. During his time with Detroit, Sprong demonstrated his offensive potential, tallying 18 goals and 25 assists, totaling 43 points in 76 games.

Seattle hopes Sprong’s return will help reignite their offense, as the team has faced a challenging start to the season, losing nine of their first 14 games. The Kraken’s offense, in particular, has struggled to find consistency, and Sprong’s history with the team suggests he could provide an immediate boost. His previous stint with Seattle was his most productive in the NHL, with career highs of 21 goals and 46 points, along with a personal-best 25 assists. Sprong’s contributions played a key role in helping the Kraken reach their first-ever Stanley Cup Playoff appearance.

Since entering the NHL in 2015, Sprong has played for multiple teams, including Pittsburgh, Anaheim, and Washington, gaining experience across the league. Over his career, he has accumulated a total of 165 points in 366 regular-season and playoff games, adding valuable depth to Seattle’s roster with his scoring ability and familiarity with their system.

This reunion aligns with the Kraken’s need for more offensive production, and with Sprong’s proven track record in Seattle, the team is optimistic that he can once again deliver strong performances.
