Latest NBA News: Klay Thompson’s dad expects Draymond Green to commit a flagrant foul on his son goes viral

There are two big expectations for Klay Thompson’s first game facing the Golden State Warriors as an opponent: It is going to be an emotional night, and Draymond Green is going to give Thompson a hard foul at some point. Mychal Thompson, Klay’s father and a longtime NBA player and broadcaster, said as such on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard and Dibs” show on Tuesday afternoon, just a few hours before the Warriors face Klay’s new team, the Mavericks. “They’ll give him a nice little tribute tonight and welcome him back and show him appreciation for all the years he spent up there,” Mychal Thompson said. “And then Draymond’s gonna commit a flagrant foul on him.” While the line earned laughs from show hosts Dan Dibley and Mark Willard, there’s plenty of truth behind the words. Heck, Green himself even said as such in an ESPN story published Tuesday morning.

“I’m going to run through his chest,” Green told ESPN. “Because I used to run through my older brother’s chest when we played. There’s always this public disdain over me and Bron’s brotherhood. I try to kill him [on the court] more than anybody. I take him out. And vice versa.

That’s what it is. I’m more apt to run through his chest than Kyrie [Irving].” In the Dubs’ strong 8-2 start, Green has been a force on defense and contributed effectively on offense (8.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game). But after Green picked up a technical foul in the first half of the first game of the season, he vowed to stay below 10 technical fouls for the year – so far, he hasn’t picked up another technical foul and hasn’t had a single flagrant, either. Clearly, that clean sheet may not last past Tuesday, as Green perhaps plans to greet his longtime Warriors teammate as Kobe Bryant did with Pau Gasol in the 2008 Olympic gold medal game. Thompson’s dad wasn’t surprised at Green’s quote and hopes it happens when the Mavs are on offense.

“I expected him to say that,” Mychal Thompson said. “I just hope that, when he does it, the Warriors will be in the penalty, so at least Klay gets a couple of free throws out of it.”
