This week, there is a lot of news about a certain former quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. This is obviously a reference to Aaron Rodgers, the current star of the New York Jets. Joe Douglas, the general manager of New York who brokered the transaction that saw Rodgers leave the Packers for the Jets in early 2023, was sacked by owner Woody Johnson earlier today. This year, there has been a lot of discussion about Rodgers, but not much of it has been favourable. The Jets are only 3-8 on the season after trading for Davante Adams, demoting Nathaniel Hackett, the offensive coordinator for the Rogers in Green Bay and New York, and firing Robert Saleh, who has since joined Matt LaFleur’s staff as an assistant.
Indeed, it has seemed as if Douglas and the entire Jets organization bent over backwards to appease their future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback since they acquired him, which included signing some of his friends from the Packers.
The Jets signed Hackett as their new offensive coordinator even before they finalised the trade for Rodgers. Allen Lazard, a free agency wide receiver who spent four seasons in Green Bay alongside the four-time NFL MVP, was also signed by them. New York also signed safety Adrian Amos, wide receiver Randall Cobb, and backup quarterback Tim Boyle after the transaction was completed.
After the season, Boyle signed a reserve/futures contract with the Texans. However, he was released when the roster was trimmed to 53 and, once again, became a free agent.
He was not out of work long, though, as he was picked up by the Miami Dolphins and signed to their practice squad. Boyle did appear in two games for Miami, who lost quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for multiple weeks after he suffered another scary concussion. He completed 57.7% of his passes for 153 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.
The Dolphins released Boyle back on October 26.
Now, nearly a month later, the former Packers backup quarterback is headed back to New York, but this time with the NFC East’s New York Giants:
Although Boyle was added to New York’s practice squad, it is still possible that he may play for them given Daniel Jones’ dismal performance this season. Boyle’s sixth team in the previous five seasons is the Giants. He has played for the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears in addition to the Packers, Jets, Texans, and Dolphins.
