The Detroit Lions are enjoying a remarkable 2024 season, sitting at the top of the NFC with an impressive 9-1 record. A significant part of their success has been quarterback Jared Goff’s outstanding performance. Goff has completed 73% of his passes this season, accumulating 2,492 yards and 20 touchdowns. Despite drafting a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft with an eye toward the future, Goff’s exceptional play has solidified his position as the Lions’ starter. Could Hendon Hooker Be Traded?
Hendon Hooker, the Lions’ third-round pick in the 2023 draft, could be a potential trade asset next season. The former Tennessee Volunteers star was initially considered a first-round talent, with some analysts ranking him alongside CJ Stroud and Bryce Young. However, a torn ACL during his final college season at Tennessee hurt his draft stock significantly.
Hooker was highly productive in college, passing for 8,974 yards and 80 touchdowns against just 12 interceptions during his time at Virginia Tech and Tennessee. He also showcased his mobility, rushing for 2,079 yards and 25 touchdowns. While recovering from his injury, Hooker has had the opportunity to develop behind Goff and learn from Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Possible Landing Spots for Hooker
Several teams in need of a quarterback could be interested in Hooker as an affordable option with significant upside:
- Las Vegas Raiders: If head coach Antonio Pierce stays, the Raiders might consider Hooker, especially given Pierce’s history with versatile quarterbacks like Jayden Daniels.
- New York Giants: With Daniel Jones benched and the Giants likely targeting the first overall pick, Hooker could join the team alongside a playmaker like Travis Hunter to transform the franchise.
- Cleveland Browns: Struggling with salary cap issues and Deshaun Watson’s underperformance, the Browns could benefit from Hooker as a cost-effective alternative.
- Miami Dolphins: If Tua Tagovailoa retires due to his concussion history, Hooker could thrive in Mike McDaniel’s dynamic offense alongside stars like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
