Ryan Switzer, a former wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was named Tulsa’s interim head coach on Sunday after head coach Kevin Wilson was fired by the program. As the team’s wide receivers coach, Switzer has been with the squad for just over a season. As the acting head coach, Switzer will only coach one game, which will be against Florida Atlantic at home on Saturday. Wilson was kicked out of the program after the Golden Hurricanes were thrashed by South Florida 63-30 this past Saturday.
Due to injuries, Switzer retired from the NFL in 2022 and joined the Tulsa staff. On a gameday, the 30-year-old, who had always aspired to become a coach after playing, gets a taste of the best coaching in the world. A four-season standout and two-time All-American, Switzer was a legend at the University of North Carolina. Switzer played for the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Steelers during his playing career. The Steelers traded for him, and he played there for two seasons. He was cut by the Steelers in 2020.
