Ohio State Buckeyes Suffer Another Decommitment in 2025 Class
The Ohio State Buckeyes experienced another setback in their 2025 recruiting efforts as five-star EDGE prospect London Merritt announced his decommitment on Tuesday. Merritt, ranked as the No. 13 EDGE in the 2025 cycle according to 247Sports’ Composite Ratings, shared his decision via social media, expressing his gratitude to the program.
“After much careful consideration, I have decided to respectfully decommit from The Ohio State University. This was not an easy decision, as I have immense respect for Coach Johnson, Coach Day, and the coaching staff,” Merritt wrote on X. “I want to express my sincere gratitude for the time, support, and belief you have shown me throughout the recruiting process. The Ohio State University is an outstanding institution, and I will always appreciate the opportunity to have been part of such a prestigious program.”
Despite having 46 total offers, analysts suggest Merritt is likely to commit to the Colorado Buffaloes following his departure from Ohio State. His decision marks the second decommitment of an EDGE player from the Buckeyes this month, following four-star Zahir Mathis’s decision to back out on November 18.
The losses do not end there for Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class. National recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong recently predicted that five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord might flip his commitment from the Buckeyes to Auburn.
Although the Buckeyes’ recruiting class has taken multiple hits, they still hold a commitment from four-star EDGE Zion Grady. The Alabama native, ranked No. 9 at his position, remains the sole pass rusher in Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting group.
This wave of decommitments has placed added pressure on the Buckeyes’ coaching staff as they work to secure top-tier talent in a competitive recruiting landscape.
