Alabama is getting ready for the ReliaQuest Bowl matchup against Michigan. SMU beat the Crimson Tide for the final position, but they were very near to qualifying for the College Football Playoffs again. Several Tide players have jumped into the transfer portal before of the bowl game. The most recent player to declare his intention to look over his possibilities in the portal was wide receiver Emmanuel Henderson Jr. on Monday. Regarding the transfer, the wideout issued a statement through his agency.
Henderson joins Kendrick Law, Kobe Prentice, and Caleb Odom as the fourth receiver on the 2-deep from Alabama to access the gateway. Henderson caught 4 catches for 82 yards in 2024. In addition, the wide receiver caught four special teams tackles and returned five kicks for 107 yards this season. During his time at Alabama, Henderson caught 5 passes for 96 yards in total. In high school, Henderson was ranked by 247Sports Composite as a 4-star recruit and the second-best player from Alabama in the 2022 class. In Tuscaloosa, Henderson switched from running back to wide receiver. Fourteen players have formally entered the portal for the Tide in total.
Alabama wide receiver Emmanuel Henderson has declared his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Henderson, who was part of the Crimson Tide’s 2022 recruiting class, had initially committed to Alabama as a highly regarded running back before transitioning to wide receiver. Despite the high expectations surrounding him, Henderson’s time with the program has been relatively quiet in terms of on-field contributions.
Over the course of his two seasons with Alabama, Henderson struggled to secure significant playing time. In his freshman year, he was primarily used in limited roles and didn’t make much of an impact on the field. The 2023 season saw him appear in just a few games, with a focus on developing in the wide receiver position rather than contributing in the running back role he had originally been recruited for.
Henderson’s decision to enter the transfer portal marks the end of his brief tenure at Alabama, with hopes of finding a better opportunity elsewhere where he can showcase his talents more effectively. With his versatile skill set, he could be an attractive prospect for other programs looking to bolster their offensive depth. Henderson’s departure adds to the list of Alabama players who have opted to transfer in recent seasons, reflecting the ever-changing landscape of college football rosters.
