Nick Sorensen, the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, was sacked earlier this week. It has been claimed that Saleh has been interviewed for the position, much to the astonishment of no one. It was generally believed that Saleh would be near the top of lists of defensive coordinators for teams looking to hire one when he was sacked by the Jets earlier this season.
Given that Saleh served as their defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2020 before departing to accept the Jets’ head coaching position, San Francisco makes sense for him. Saleh, LaFleur, and San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan have a long history together, as many fans are aware. In the late 2000s, the Houston Texans had all three on the same coaching staff.
Saleh spent six seasons with the Texans, first as a defensive intern in 2005, then as a defensive quality control coach from 2006 to 2008, and finally as the Texans’ assistant linebackers coach from 2009 to 2010.
