FORMER GREEN BAY PACKERS PLAYER INTERVIEWS FOR 49ERS SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR OPENING

Chris Banjo, a former safety for the Green Bay Packers, has emerged as a top contender for the San Francisco 49ers’ special teams coordinator position. As reported by ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, Banjo, along with Chris Tabor and Nick Sorensen, has already undergone an interview for the role, as 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan seeks to bolster his team’s special teams unit.

You may recall Chris Banjo’s name, and for good reason. After signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2013, Banjo joined the Green Bay Packers that July and made an immediate impact, playing in all 16 regular-season games during his rookie season. During his four-year tenure with the Packers, Banjo appeared in 37 games, starting two on defense. However, his true strength lay in special teams, where he logged 673 snaps, far surpassing his 294 defensive reps. Banjo went on to play seven additional seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.

Following his retirement from playing after the 2022 season, Chris Banjo seamlessly transitioned into coaching, joining the Denver Broncos as an assistant special teams coach under the guidance of esteemed head coach Sean Payton. Remarkably, within just two seasons as a coaching assistant, Banjo’s reputation has grown, and he is now being considered as a potential special teams coordinator.
