Anderson, a fourth-year junior offensive lineman, revealed on Monday that he will transfer to SMU. Anderson, a product of Dallas suburb Frisco, TX, where he excelled at Reedy High School, will return to the Metroplex with two years of eligibility remaining.
Anderson redshirted in 2020 and did not appear in a game in 2021. Anderson played 36 snaps in four games as a third-year sophomore in 2022 (UTEP, Kent State, Nebraska, and TCU) before settling into a special teams position in 2023.
This season, he appeared in all 12 games and earned 109 special teams plays, largely on the field goal and extra point unit. He also got action on offense in two games, playing 32 plays against Arkansas State and four against Tulsa.
Anderson, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 305 pounds, may have had a chance to contribute more on offense in 2024, when the Sooners will replace their entire starting offensive line. Seniors Walter Rouse and McKade Mettauer graduated, senior Andrew Raym and junior Tyler Guyton had more eligibility but elected to enter the NFL Draft, and freshman Cayden Green arrived unexpectedly.
Despite the fact that the Sooners’ offensive line will be entirely rebuilt next season, Anderson should have a smoother route to playing time for Rhett Lashlee’s Mustangs in 2024.
