Breaking News:Done Deal Texas Longhorns confirmed the signing of another top super star

It appears that the Texas Longhorns have secured a significant commitment from wide receiver Matthew Golden, a transfer from the Houston Cougars. Golden has officially signed his letter of intent with Texas during the Early Signing Period.

Matthew Golden is recognized as a dynamic and explosive playmaker, ranking as the No. 21 player in the transfer portal according to On3’s rankings. He becomes the first commitment via the transfer portal for the Longhorns, filling a void left by several departures from the team, including notable backup quarterback Maalik Murphy.

In his two-year collegiate career at Houston, Golden accumulated impressive stats, with 76 catches for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has also showcased his versatility on special teams, returning kickoffs for 437 yards and two touchdowns, with an average of 35.6 yards per kickoff return. Golden’s impact on special teams could extend to punt returns as well.

Notably, Golden played a crucial role in Houston’s game against Texas, contributing to the Cougars’ comeback from a 21-0 deficit. In that game, he recorded seven catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

The timing of Golden’s arrival is crucial for the Longhorns, as they face the potential departure of their star wide receiver trio—Jordan Whittington, Xavier Worthy, and Adonai Mitchell—to the NFL Draft. While the team still has talent at the position, Golden’s addition provides stability and depth, especially given other losses like Isaiah Neyor and Casey Cain to the transfer portal.

With Matthew Golden joining the Longhorns, the wide receiver position appears to be in a more secure and promising position for the 2024 season.
