In an upcoming matchup, former Cleveland Browns teammates Myles Garrett and Case Keenum will find themselves on opposing sides as Keenum starts for the Houston Texans. With C.J. Stroud ruled out due to a concussion, Keenum will face the challenge of avoiding pressure from Garrett, known for his formidable pass-rushing abilities.
Keenum revealed a lighthearted deal he made with Garrett back in 2021 during their time together with the Browns. He jokingly mentioned, “Hey Myles, if I give you two sacks in the first quarter, you just don’t rush for the rest of the game.” Peyton Manning, on the “ManningCast” during Monday Night Football, remarked that it was a smart deal for Keenum.
However, Garrett, despite the banter, indicated that he never signed any dotted lines and has no intention of taking it easy on Keenum. He jokingly suggested that if Keenum has a signed contract, he could show it to him on Sunday, and they might be able to work something out. Otherwise, Garrett is prepared to continue his efforts on the field.
Garrett, who has 13 sacks this season but has been without one for the past four games, acknowledged his recent sack-less streak. Despite battling a shoulder injury and expressing frustration with officiating, he emphasized that he’s still making an impact beyond sacks. Garrett believes he can take his performance to another level and aims to contribute more explosive plays.
The upcoming challenge for Garrett includes facing three-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil. Despite the difficulties, Garrett expressed anticipation for the matchup, praising Tunsil as one of the best tackles in the league.
As the Browns gear up for the matchup against Keenum and the Texans, they recognize Keenum’s experience and ability to lead his team to victory. Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz highlighted Keenum as a true veteran with a winning track record.
Both the Texans and the Browns are in the playoff race, with Houston holding an 8-6 record and Cleveland at 9-5. A win would significantly enhance the Browns’ chances of securing a postseason spot, with NFL.com projecting a 99% likelihood with a victory.
