As the Bears get ready to play the Falcons on Sunday, both tight end Cole Kmet (knee) and left guard Teven Jenkins (concussion) are still sidelined. In addition, wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who left Sunday’s game without exhibiting any symptoms, is now in the concussion protocol, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. Lucas Patrick also appeared with a knee issue; he will only take part in the walkthroughs on Wednesday. D’Onta Foreman, the running back, will also rejoin the Bears after handling a personal matter last week. That private matter prevented him from participating in Week 16.
Kmet had a quadriceps ailment the week before the Cardinals game, but the soreness did not stop him from having an incredible first half in which he caught four passes for 107 yards. However, Kmet left the game in the second quarter due to a knee injury. Wednesday is not a practice day for him.
Jenkins will continue to follow the concussion protocol, according to Eberflus, although he will only be partially involved in practice. Jenkins has been in the protocol ever since he sustained the concussion midway through the team’s Week 15 matchup with the Browns.
As the Bears departed Soldier Field to celebrate Christmas Eve, Mooney seemed to be in good health. But Mooney entered Halas Hall on Monday and self-reported having symptoms similar to a concussion. After testing him, the team added him to the protocol.
“It occurs frequently that a man enters, feels uneasy, is tested, and is placed in the protocol,” Eberflus stated.
Eberflus also provided some positive injury news. Linebacker Noah Sewell and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown will both resume practice after missing several weeks.
