BREAKING: Georgia OLB Confirms Return in 2024
The Georgia Bulldogs received positive news amidst a turbulent month of player transfers as JACK linebacker Chaz Chambliss announced his decision to return for his senior season in 2024. This announcement was made during Georgia’s media availability ahead of their Orange Bowl matchup against No. 5 Florida State.
Chambliss expressed a desire for improvement in his level of play, emphasizing that there’s still room for him to grow as a player. When asked about specific areas of improvement, he mentioned discussions with outside linebacker coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe. The focus is not only on individual improvement but also on how he can contribute to the team’s success.
Chambliss had a significant role in Georgia’s defense at the JACK position following Nolan Smith’s season-ending injury in 2022. Although it took time for the Carrollton, Georgia native to adapt to this role, his confidence and performance steadily improved throughout the 2022 season. Notably, he recorded a sack against LSU in the 2022 SEC Championship Game and contributed to tackles in the 2022 College Football Playoff.
During the 2022 season, Chambliss accumulated 12 tackles and 2 sacks. In the following season (2023), he did not register a sack but contributed significantly with 20 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 1 interception. His role primarily involved playing on standard downs, setting the edge, and creating opportunities for his teammates to make plays on ball carriers.
Chambliss’s decision to return for his senior season is a positive development for the Bulldogs, providing continuity and experience in their defensive lineup.
