Danny Rohl has emphasized the crucial focus that Sheffield Wednesday should place on their priorities for the upcoming January transfer window.
As the club continues to grapple with the challenge of avoiding relegation in the latter half of the campaign, they currently sit nine points adrift from safety. Given this predicament, Rohl, undoubtedly eyeing reinforcements, aims to bolster the squad in their quest to secure Championship status for another season.
The Owls have notably struggled in scoring goals, boasting the lowest goal tally in the second tier with just 17 goals scored in 24 games. Anthony Musaba stands as the top goalscorer for the club with a mere four goals, while collectively their five strikers have managed only seven goals.
Sheffield Wednesday’s pressing need revolves around injecting more attacking prowess into their lineup if they aim to defy the odds over the impending months. Rohl openly acknowledges this necessity.
In response to queries about the club’s priorities for potential signings, Rohl conveyed to BBC Sheffield (as reported by The Star): “We are well aware of this requirement. We need players up front who possess the quality to convert chances. This is a collective need within the team. Despite our ability to compete with our opponents, there hasn’t been a game where we haven’t been competitive since my arrival, except perhaps against Millwall. However, even in that match, we created numerous opportunities. Our strength lies in being able to challenge every opponent, but to secure victories, we require a more clinical edge in both penalty boxes.”
Who should Sheffield Wednesday sign?
Recent reports suggest that Dejphon Chansiri might infuse funds into the club in the upcoming month to acquire a top-quality goalscorer, aimed at aiding Sheffield Wednesday in their bid to stave off relegation.
Various players, including Scott Hogan, have been linked to the club. However, the crucial point is for Sheffield Wednesday not to succumb to panic-buying and hastily acquire the first available forward.
The Owls are in dire need of an experienced and prolific goalscorer. Yet, they are cautious about avoiding individuals who might be past their prime or carry a detrimental attitude. Securing strikers during the January transfer window is inherently challenging, and Danny Rohl would be keen to ensure that his team isn’t deceived or pressured in their pursuit of new signings.
