Injury update: 2 Key Player are doubtful for Sunday; Mooney is out.

Darnell Mooney, a receiver with the Bears, is still in the concussion protocol and will not play in Sunday’s home game against the Falcons.

After being limited in practice on Friday, tight end Cole Kmet (knee) and center Lucas Patrick (knee) are both classified as questionable on the injury report.

Kmet was hurt after taking a straight hit on his knee following a 29-yard reception late in the first half of the team’s victory over the Cardinals on Sunday. After hauling in four passes for a career-high 107 yards, he was taken out before halftime.

After being taken by the Bears in the second round of the 2020 draft out of Notre Dame, Kmet has participated in all 65 games with 58 starts without missing a single one.

“That’s the one personal thing that means the most to me,” Kmet stated. Jimmy Graham, throughout his time here, emphasized that availability, dependability, and other such factors are what these firms truly consider to be the most crucial. It is my responsibility to prepare as much as I can for the game. Since joining the league, I’ve been doing that for a while.”

Kmet admitted that there is a trade-off between playing more games in a row and managing his injuries well.

Injury Update: Mooney out; Kmet, Patrick questionable for Sunday

“I’m not going to be dumb about it,” he replied. “However, I’m good to go if I feel like it. When you’re out there, you have to let it loose as well. The majority of players are playing at 80 or 70% during this time of year. ‘Can he play at 100% at 80?’ is the key question. This league is that. You’re aiming to arrive at that by Sunday.”

Coach Matt Eberflus responded, “It’s positive,” when asked if Kmet would be available on Sunday. “Everything looks pretty good there.” Patrick, Eberflus continued, “also looks very good for that.”

After missing time due to injuries, three Bears seem prepared to play on Sunday: Throughout the week, linebacker Noah Sewell (knee), guard Teven Jenkins (concussion), and receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (pectoral) all participated fully in practice without receiving an injury designation.
