Braves expected to sign infielder Jose Perdomo when international signings open January 15
The Braves are likely to give Jose Perdomo one of the highest signing bonuses in the class.
The 2024 International Signing Period will commence on January 15 and the Atlanta Braves are likely to dish out one of the larger signing bonuses in the class to Venezuelan infielder Jose Perdomo. The Braves have been linked to Perdomo for some time and he leads Baseball America’s list of 50 international prospects which are rated in order of their expected signing bonuses.
Baseball America’s Ben Badler expects that the Braves will give Perdomo a bonus in the vicinity of the $5.6 million that the Padres rewarded catcher Ethan Salas last winter. Here is what more he had to say about Perdomo.
Perdomo’s bat has been his calling card, with a skill set that invites comparisons to Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres. He’s an aggressive hitter who has performed well in games with a basic, direct swing and outstanding hand-eye coordination, enabling him to barrel both fastballs and breaking stuff. Perdomo doesn’t have the physical upside of some of the other important players in the class, but as he’s gotten stronger, he has gotten more explosive, giving him additional power to go with his hitting skills. While a lot of scouts who saw Perdomo early thought he was slated for third base or possibly second base, the gains he has made defensively offer him a higher opportunity to continue at shortstop. He’s a terrific runner with outstanding movements and a strong arm.
Outfielder Luis Guanipa headed the Braves’ international class last offseason. Guanipa reportedly received a $2.5 million signing bonus.
