DeMeco Ryans explains what sets C.J. Stroud apart

“He’s been focused — he’s been laser focused, locked in.”
Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud is the runaway favorite to win the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award this season following possibly the most prolific season of any rookie quarterback history, and it sounds like it all starts with his mentality.

Following Stroud’s impressive performance against the Cleveland Browns in the team’s playoff win over the weekend, Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans had some high comments for Stroud’s approach and mentality, stating the rookie quarterback has been “laser focused.”

“C.J.’s been the same throughout the year. I’ve always spoke about his improvement throughout the year — from Day 1 to where we are now — but he’s been consistent,” Ryans said in his Monday press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “I think throughout these past — throughout the past month that he’s been back from the injury, he’s just really been very calm. He’s been concentrated — he’s been laser focused, locked in. He’s been extremely serene, quite confident, and I believe everybody senses that around him.”

Stroud recorded the first playoff win of his career on Saturday. We’ll have to see if he can duplicate some of that magic this week when the Texans take on the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens.
