Breaking News: Former Texas DT signee D’antre Robinson commits to Florida

Eventually, the Gators prevailed over Robinson after originally missing out on the large defensive lineman.

Robinson committed to the Florida Gators on Friday, a few days after the Texas Longhorns released him from his National Letter of Intent. Robinson is a product of Orlando Jones.

“I just wanted to be closer with my family because Florida has been my dream school and some unexpected things happened at Texas,” Robinson said to On3. “My family will find it much simpler to attend my performances and engage in other activities.” As a mommy’s boy, I have to say that it feels wonderful to be nearer to my ma dukes. If I had continued, I would have had family in Texas because my elder sister resides there. Being in my current state feels so much better for me as a family guy, and I’m glad and pleased with the choice I made.

Less than ten days ago, defensive line coach Bo Davis of Texas unexpectedly left to become a coach at his old university, LSU.

Robinson, a four-star prospect by most accounts, is rated as the No. 34 defensive lineman and the No. 252 player in the country by 247Sports Composite. The 6’4″, 315-pound player had 60 offers, from schools such as Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and USC; but, when Robinson made official visits to both, Florida and Texas were the front-runners.

In July, Robinson finally decided to commit to the Longhorns over the Gators. However, head coach Billy Napier was unyielding in his pursuit of Robinson, and the Texas staff had to bring him back to campus in the fall to reaffirm his decision.
