This week, the Dallas Cowboys and club owner Jerry Jones made the decision to dash the aspirations of the team’s supporters worldwide by hiring coach Mike Florioback, in spite of the coach’s dismal 1-3 playoff record in Dallas and the team’s devastating loss to the Packers in the postseason opener. However, Jones may not have made the final decision. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Cowboys attempted to inquire about famous coach Bill Belichick’s interest in taking over in Dallas, but were turned down.
It appears that Belichick is coming closer to making his way to Atlanta. It was reported that the Eagles and Cowboys were thwarted in their attempts to sign Belichick, causing the Eagles to retain Nick Sirianni and the Cowboys to remain with McCarthy. Oddly enough, Florio mentions Belichick’s desire to leave big media markets as one of the reasons.
Florio stated this week, “According to a league source, Belichick is thought to be done with ‘big-market media,’ making him more inclined to go to a place like Atlanta than Dallas or Philadelphia.”
Regarding the Cowboys and Eagles, there is a notion in certain league circles that after both teams showed interest in Belichick, the franchises chose to remain with their present head coaches after Belichick declined their advances.

The proper folks are here. However, we haven’t yet reached the point of winning postseason games. And to be sitting here talking about it is just depressing. I know how to win, though. We’ll cross the threshold. I stand here today because I am completely confident in it.
Maybe that’s why he was standing there on that particular day. But it’s more likely that he was standing there because Bill Belichick was refusing to take the position.
