Rangers reveal the news on Corey Seager’s surgery.
The current MVP of the World Series can have a slow start to the upcoming campaign.
Star shortstop Corey Seager had surgery on Tuesday to treat a sports hernia, as Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young disclosed to reporters. Young points out that Seager initially sustained the ailment during the previous postseason and that it did not improve with rest, despite the Rangers’ optimism that he will be ready for Opening Day.
Throughout Texas’ World Series victory, the four-time All-Star Seager undoubtedly displayed no signs of discomfort from the injury. In the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he blasted three home runs in five games, including a huge game-tying blast in the ninth inning of Game 1. Seager won his second career World Series MVP prize in recognition of his efforts. (In 2020, he won it again with the Los Angeles Dodgers.)
Nevertheless, Seager is a very costly investment who will turn 30 in April and is entering the third year of a 10-year, $325 million contract, so the Rangers need to be aggressive with him. Texas will already have lost to Max Scherzer to begin the 2024 season, and now it will be difficult for Seager to recover from his own injuries.
