Good News: Michael Malone confirm Another Experienced Star He Wants To Sign Before Deadline Day

At the trade deadline, the Nuggets may allegedly bring back one unexpected player.
As the trade deadline approaches, the reigning NBA champions may be eager to get back together with [checks notes] a player who averages five points per game.

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor reported this week that the Denver Nuggets are thinking of trading for veteran guard Monte Morris, who is now with the Detroit Pistons. O’Connor points out that Denver needs an off-the-bench backup.

It’s clear that Morris, 28, is not a particularly memorable name. Nevertheless, despite being a homegrown Nugget who played his first five seasons with them, he is still quite well-liked in Denver. Granted, Morris was traded in 2022 as part of the deal for fellow guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, thus he was not a member of Denver’s championship squad the previous season. However, he averaged 10.5 points and 3.7 assists per game during his time with the Nuggets (including starting in 2021-22 while Jamal Murray was sidelined due to an ACL tear), and he is well-versed in Michael Malone’s management style.

Morris, who is currently Murray’s backup and has dropped to 4.5 points per game in a very limited role for the Pistons who are in last place in the NBA, has some playmaking ability and is a stronger second unit leader than score-first guard Reggie Jackson. With his penchant for clutch play, he could be worth a reunion call from the Nuggets after the season ends as a free agency.
