Smithson Valley cornerback Jackson Duffey committed to the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday. The Longhorns may have completed their 2024 recruiting class before Wednesday’s National Signing Day, but Assistant Director of Player Personnel John Michael Jones is already hard at work putting together the walk-on class that will descend upon the Forty Acres come fall.
At 6’0, 165 pounds, Duffey boasts impressive stats like a 4.6 40-yard dash, 4.1 shuttle, and a 32-inch vertical. He has received offers from Trinity, San Diego, and Colorado School of Mines. Against College Station in the state semifinals, the Smithson Valley product finished his senior year with 43 tackles, 12 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and an interception return for a touchdown. Duffey returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, averaging 27.3 yards per return on 18 kickoff returns, and caught 27 catches for 474 yards and four scores on offense. Duffey can play free safety, which is a position he’ll probably play for the Longhorns, according to his social media accounts.
