RHP Lou Trivino signed by the Yankees
RHP Lou Trivino has signed a one-year Major League contract with the New York Yankees, effective for the 2024 season, and a club option for the 2025 season, the team announced today.
On May 3, 2023, Trivino, 32, underwent right elbow UCL reconstructive surgery, which caused him to miss the whole 2023 season. On November 17, 2023, a contract was not tendered to him. During his final full season in 2022, he had 25 bullpen appearances with the Yankees, going 1-2 with one save and a 1.66 ERA (21.2IP, 18H, 6R/4ER, 10BB, 22K, 1HR). The Oakland Athletics were Trivino’s team to start the 2022 season. In 39 relief appearances, he went 1-6 with 10 saves and a 6.47 ERA (32.0IP, 46H, 25R/23ER, 14BB, 45K, 5HR).
Trivino has played in 285 career appearances (one start) across five Major League seasons with the Oakland (2018–22) and the Yankees (2022). He has gone 21–25 with 37 saves and a 3.86 ERA (284.2IP, 252H, 137R/122ER, 130BB, 299K, 29HR). He has limited right-handed hitters to a.210 batting average,.299 on-base percentage, and.312 slugging percentage (699BF) over his Major League career. In terms of inherited runners scored percentage since making his Major League debut in 2018, he is sixth in the Majors and second among AL relief pitchers (27.7).
He has made nine postseason appearances in his career (four with the Yankees), and in those nine appearances (the 2020 Wild Card Series against Chicago-AL, the 2020 ALDS against Houston, the 2022 ALDS against Cleveland, and the 2022 ALCS against Houston), he has a 0.96 ERA (9.1IP, 4H, 1R/1ER, 3BB, 10K, 1HR) without a decision.
The Oakland Athletics originally selected the Sellersville, Pennsylvania native from Slippery Rock University (Pa.) in the eleventh round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. On August 1, 2022, the Yankees acquired him and RHP Frankie Montas from Oakland in exchange for LHP JP Sears, INF Cooper Bowman, RHP Luis Medina, and LHP Ken Waldichuk.
The Yankees have placed OF Jasson Domínguez (who is recovering from “Tommy John” reconstructive surgery) on the 60-day disabled list in order to free up space on the 40-man roster.
