particular teams are simply made to have particular players on them. Tyrann Mathieu, the safety for the New Orleans Saints, is one of those players.
Mathieu was born in Louisiana’s New Orleans.

After completing his high school education at St. Augustine in New Orleans, he played for the LSU Tigers at the adjacent university in Baton Rouge. Mathieu was allowed to negotiate a contract with the Saints prior to the 2022 season, following nine years of NFL service. And now Mathieu is choosing to stay home and spend the next two years in New Orleans rather than continuing his NFL career abroad. The news of the contract was initially leaked by Nick Underhill of the New Orleans Football Network.

The parameters of the deal are $13 million over those two years, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.

After suffering numerous injuries in the early going of his career as an Arizona Cardinal, Mathieu, who will turn 32 in May, has been dependable and strong. The Honey Badger has only missed two games since 2017, and he has participated in every game for the Saints in each of the previous two seasons. It is quite probable that Mathieu’s native state of Louisiana has been his best stop during his ten-year career. Mathieu has already surpassed his own records in two seasons with the Saints in terms of tackles (91 in 2022) and interception yardage (122 in 2023).
