According to numerous publications on Thursday, the Texas Rangers and free agent right-hander Michael Lorenzen reached an agreement on a one-year contract to solve the team’s injury-plagued rotation. According to reports, the transaction is worth $4.5 million, plus an additional $2.5 million in incentives. It is anticipated that the Rangers will be without injured starters Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, and Tyler Mahle for a significant portion of the season.
Free agent Jordan Montgomery, one of the team’s postseason heroes, is allegedly back in talks with the New York Yankees and is not anticipated to play for the Rangers again. The previous season, Lorenzen, 32, alternated between the Detroit and Philadelphia teams.
He received his first All-Star selection because to his 3.58 ERA in 18 starts with the Tigers. On August 9, against the Washington Nationals, he pitched his first career no-hitter in his first home start with the Phillies. With an 8.01 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in his final 30 1/3 innings of play, he was demoted to the bullpen at the end of the previous season. He appeared in just two games during the Phillies’ postseason campaign.
After playing in 342 games (69 starts) with the Cincinnati Reds (2015–21), Los Angeles Angels (2022), Tigers, and Phillies, Lorenzen has a 40–38 career record with a 4.11 ERA in 724 innings. This weekend, the Rangers will wrap up their Cactus League campaign in Arizona. They play exhibition games at Globe Life Field on Monday and Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox before starting the season on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs. Before the game, the Rangers will hoist the World Series championship flag, and it is anticipated that the players will receive their title rings.
