Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes dresses as the Texas Longhorns mascot after apparently losing March Madness bet to his ex-backup Shane Buechele

After seemingly losing a March Madness wager to his former backup quarterback Shane Buechele, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes dons a Texas Longhorns mascot. But is the Super Bowl MVP performing a practical joke on us?

This week, quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and the current MVP of the Super Bowl seemed to have lost a bet when he shared a photo of himself on social media with the head of a Texas Longhorns mascot outfit.

“One bets (sic) one bet.” The Instagram photo of Mahomes mimicking the “Hookem” hand signal used by Longhorns supporters was captioned. Good job, #Hookem.

Mahomes seemed to imply that he had lost a March Madness wager by tagging his wife Paige and former Chiefs teammate Shane Buechele, who both attended the University of Texas at Austin. As an alum of rival Texas Tech, Mahomes would have a vested interest in seeing Texas fail; after all, the Longhorns men’s basketball team defeated Colorado State in the first round of the current NCAA Tournament.

However, as Paige Buchele disclosed on her Instagram page, Mahomes might not have chosen his outfit based on a wager.

Texas did defeat Colorado State, 56–44, to move on to face Tennessee in the second round on Saturday in Charlotte.

Mahomes’ Texas Tech team lost to a fierce North Carolina State squad in the opening round, so the Red Raiders will have to watch the Longhorns advance from Lubbock, Texas.

Recently, Shane Buechele moved to Buffalo from Kansas City to take Josh Allen’s place as the Bills’ backup quarterback.

However, Mahomes, Buechele, and their spouses all went to a NWSL game in Kansas City prior to him departing for the rival Bills.

In their inaugural game at CPKC Stadium, the Kansas City Current, a relatively new NWSL team partially owned by Mahomes and his wife Brittany, defeated the Portland Thorn, 5-4.

Paige Buechele posted a picture of the two couples on Instagram with the caption, “BIG @kccurrent fans.”
